10 days 14 hrs 23 minutes....

10 days 14 hrs & 23 minutes till my surgery, but who's counting right!
Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! I am so excited about the new journey I will be ennbracing, but at the same time I am so scared of the surgery!
Like honestly all of you that have already had the surgery & the ones that are in the process of it, did you, do you think of the what if's?
At times I get so scared that I will die in the surgery, it's a feeling that really makes me nervous, makes me really scared! At night when I am putting my kids to sleep I hug them & kiss them goodnight and it comes to my mind that I might not be here soon to keep on doing that !
I don't wanna get that feeling. I don't wanna be scared!
I am 292 lbs, but other than that I am healthy. No diabetes, no high blood pressure, no cholesteral no nothing. I know there some ppl that have the surgery and they have co mortalaties and they come out great from the surgery. So why do I get so scared when I know that I am a healthy person, a healthy morbably obeses person that is.
Please let me know if anyt of you went thru this before your surgery.
Is it normal???

  1. i haven't had surgery yet so i can't speak from experience. but i can totally relate to this. when i first started to contemplate wls i thought what if i died? what if because of my selfishness my husband was left alone? that would be the worst. i couldn't hurt him like that. but the more i looked into it the more i was put at ease. sooo many ppl get this done and turn out just great. plus remember the lap band procedure is the simplest and the safest of all the procedures. you're gonna be just fine! a little sore but that it. :)

  2. I am pretty sure the mortality rate for this type of surgery is very very low. It is not very invasive, so it is not likely going to cause any problems. Surgery can be scary, yes, but chances are you will be perfectly ok. Good luck, you are getting very close!!

  3. It's very normal to have these thoughts. Just remind yourself, like Janelle said, the mortality rate is almost non-existent here. The biggest risks are if you're in poor healthy, like if you're a smoker or have high blood pressure and stuff like that, but as you mentioned, you're healthy and young! You will be absolutely fine and hugging your kids before your surgery day is out.

  4. It is perfectly normal to think "what if?" but you will drive yourself crazy doing that. Just know that it is very unlikely something will happen and focus on how wonderful it will be when all is said and done and you are on your way to a skinnier and healthier you! Take a deep breath!

  5. Thank you all! I was really freaking out thinking I was the only one with these thoughts! I am so glad to see that it's a normanl process to go thru. I am very excited about the outcome as I see so many that have gone thru it & where they are :). You all are my inspirations.

  6. It is totally normal to have those fears. What I did was be practical.

I let my husband know where my "important papers" were. I gave him info that he'd need if something happened. But then I put my life in God's hands, and let Him take care of me, and He did.

Not to say I wasn't nervous being led into the operating room, because I was. You can always ask your doc or anesthesiologist for a happy pill or shot prior to the surgery so you can relax.

You'll be fine. If you weren't nervous, then I'd be worried.
